After listening for months to
the beautiful "Waltz Away Dreaming" ballad, we began wondering
more about the main writer and singer, Toby Bourke. We knew Mr.
Bourke was the first ĘGEAN artist to release a single, but that
was about it. As a result, we wrote to ĘGEAN a few months ago and
asked for a cyber interview. Mr. Bourke very graciously took a few
minutes out of his busy recording schedule to answer our "questionnaire."
And as you'll find out, he has an incredibly good sense of humour!
It's a cyber thrill to present
this exclusive interview to the many supporters of the Yours Only
George website.
Special thanks to Shirlie Kemp
for helping us with our interview. :)
Background
Can you tell us a little about
your background?
I was born in London in 1965.
I've got one brother and one sister (both are singers as well).
I went to school in Yorkshire at a place called Ampleworth &
then to University in Wales. I've got a degree in politics, I've
been a builder, a van driver, a salesman, but I prefer doing what
I do now (funnily enough!)
When is your birthday?
7/2/65 (Editor's note: 7 February
1965)
Do you have any nicknames?
Doy
ĘGEAN
How does it feel to have a successful
first single?
It takes a while to sink in.
When I first heard it on radio I was sick!
We have to ask :) What is it
like working with George?
What do you reckon.
What is it like working with
AEGEAN?
Very good but not as good
as (4 & 5). (The questions were numbered when we sent them
to Mr. Bourke. He is referring to the two previous questions.)
Artistry
Who are your musical influences?
1997 pop, Dylan, Shane Mc
Gowan & Paul Brady.
Do you plan to write all of
your own material? Why or why not?
Yes - you generally have more
feeling for your own words and that should show in the recording.
Describe a few of the songs
you're currently working on or have finished.
Next single 'Our Favourite
Song' - upbeat semi bossa.
Who are your favourite singers/bands
right now?
Dylan - He's 56 & still
manages to bring out an album as good as his new one 'Time out
of Mind'.
Internet
Will you attend chats at the
AEGEAN site to "meet" your fans?
Only if you ask nicely.
How do you feel about your music
being released worldwide on the web?
I don't know if anyone has
bought it yet.
Future
What is your next single and
when will it be released?
'Our favourite Song' Feb 98.
Where would you like to be 5
years from now?
Still working, still alive,
still doing questionnaires for Shirlie & owning some decent
guitars for a change!
Toby
Once again, we'd like to thank
the very nice and extremely talented Mr. Toby Bourke for answering
our questions! We look forward to hearing more of your songs in
the future! :)
