Capital Awards
YOGfriend Bev lets us in on George's latest activities:
Just to let everyone know that George was present today (Wednesday) at
Capital Radio's 1999 London Awards in aid of their annual fundraiser,
Help A London Child. He received the award for LONDON'S FAVOURITE MALE
VOCALIST!! :o) He thanked everyone who had voted for him and spoke with
humour, apologising for missing last year's ceremony (because he was "otherwise
engaged") and said that the support of the fans had helped him through
the trauma! Other recipients included Texas, Robbie Williams, Spice Girls,
and there was a special award for Sir Elton John. During the proceedings,
which were broadcast live, I'm certain I heard a money pledge being made
on behalf of Hardback & Sons -- isn't that Andros's company?
"Charlotte's Wonder-ful record"
George isn't mentioned at all in this BBC article about Charlotte Church,
but there is a nice picture.

Hits Under the Hammer
YOGfriend Bev says:
Last night there was a big charity auction in London called "Hits
Under The Hammer". Several lots, including hand-written lyrics and
autographed scores, were auctioned for the children's charities Norwood-Ravenswood
and Nordorff-Robbins. The hand-written lyrics for "Faith" raised
a staggering 10,000 pounds sterling! :o)

States
NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT EDITORS)--March 23, 1999--Capitol Records will
be releasing Geri Halliwell's solo debut album this summer, and the album's
first single, "Look At Me," is going to U.S. radio for adds
on May 17th.
"Geri Halliwell has already won over tens of millions of fans all
around the globe with her terrific talent," said Roy Lott, president
& CEO, Capitol Records. "It's wonderful to have her as a solo
artist on Capitol Records, and we look forward to working with her and
her team, as well as with EMI Records worldwide, as she embarks on this
next phase of her stellar career."
"Look At Me" was written by Geri Halliwell and Paul Wilson and
Andy Watkins of PKA Absolute. An accompanying video has just been filmed
in Prague and was directed by Vaughn Arnell, whose previous credits include
Robbie Williams' "Let Me Entertain You" and George Michael's
"Outside."
A Concert for Linda
George will be performing at the tribute concert for Linda McCartney
at London's Royal Albert Hall. You can read more about it:
Driveways of the Rich and Famous
Paulette tells us of a humorous site:
There's a cable show that is called "Driveways
of the Rich & Famous". John Cunningham, the interviewer on
the show spoke with George Michael. (Not recently probably last summer.)
Here goes:
Location Of Interview: Laemmle Sunset 5 Theatre, West Hollywood, Ca.
JOHN: Mr. Michael, I'm John Cunningham from Driveways of the Rich and
Famous.
GEORGE: [laughs] Driveways?
JOHN: Could you tell me what your driveway looks like?
GEORGE: I don't have one.
JOHN: Oh.
(There's a cute picture of George, smiling, as he's about to go into
the theater. www.driveways.com
if you want to see the pic.)
As If!
Ismael says that the "As" imports have made it to the land
of the Georgeless (the U.S.):
On Tuesday I went to Virgin mega store to look in the George Michael
section. Much to my surprise I found it ( AS!) They had 2 cd's each with
diffrent versions & mixes. I bought it in Orange Calif. USA. where
I live. So those of you who live in the states can now get it. So hurry!!!!!!

UK charts
YOGfriend Bev says:
CHART NEWS! CHART NEWS! CHART NEWS!
Just to inform you all that "As" has entered the UK singles
chart at No.4! Congratulations to George and Mary J. :o) And here's an
interesting statistic, provided by Capital Radio's Chart Show DJ, Dr Fox:
including the Wham! singles, and his collaborations with other artists,
"As" represents George's 28th single to make the UK Top 10!
What an amazing track record (absolutely no pun intended!) !! :o)
March 4, 1999
"As" in UK charts
YOGfriend Bev says:
"Today's UK mid-week singles chart (4th March) shows that "As"
is currently at No 4! It'll be interesting to see if it stays there for
Sunday's full-week chart...or maybe goes higher! :o)"

L & G video coming to U.S. shores
Dave's news will surely excite those of us deprived of George in the
U.S.:
The "Ladies and Gentlemen - Best of George Michael" home video
is now going to be released on the United States. According to Sony the
VHS version will be in stores on April 20th and the DVD version will be
in stores on May 4th!
February 27, 1999
MTV site includes RealVideo clip of "As"
An article on the MTV site, "George
Michael, Mary J. Blige Get Multiplied For Video" describes George's
most recent video and includes a RealVideo
clip for those of us in North America who can't see it.
"George to sell lyrics to 'Faith' at auction"
From the Sony
Music Europe site:
"George Michael, Oasis, Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones are
among artists featured in the first dedicated auction of hit song lyrics
next month. George Michael is expected to offer the lyrics to his 1986
hit 'Faith' - which are valued at between £10,000 and £15,000 - though
its said that they could fetch much more. Organisers plan to sell any
unsold lots from the London auction on the Internet making it the largest
web auction ever conducted. All proceeds will go to charity.

"As" video premieres on MTV Europe
Tricia, Dave, and Bev have written in tell us that the video for "As"
premiered on MTV Europe yesterday.
Tricia says:
"I have just seen the video for 'As' for the first time, and I would
just like to say that it is absolutely amazing!! The best bit is that
it contains about 100 George Michael's all together in one room!! Wow!!
Who could ask for more!! If anyone hasn't seen it yet, MTV has the exclusive
on it, so keep your eyes peeled and enjoy!!"
YOGfriend Bev says:
"MTV UK premiered the video for 'As' today (25 February), and what
a classy production it is! The video begins with George entering a building;
he walks down a corridor as he sings...and enters a 'club'. But all the
other men in the club are -- GEORGE! Then Mary J. Blige starts singing,
and you see multiple Marys enter the 'club' too! George and Mary are then
seen singing, talking, drinking, walking around, and dancing, but again
in multiple! At the end, the camera closes in on the club DJ, and it's
George. It is SUCH a clever and sophisticated video!"
February 23, 1999
Heat
YOGfriend Bev says:
The new issue of "heat" magazine (dated 27 February - 5 March)
carries an interview with George Michael. In fact, as it proclaims on
the cover, he "talks sex"! What you will read inside is an edited
version of the interview that first appeared in "The Advocate",
so "heat" is a must-buy for any UK fans who couldn't get hold
of that. Sadly George doesn't make the cover of "heat", and
there are a couple of spectacular typographical errors ... but some nice
pictures too! Enjoy.

"British CD sales rise 18 percent in '98"
YOGfriend Angelo points out that George is mentioned in "British
CD sales rise 18 percent in '98."
Divine's "One More Try"
The PR Newswire has an article on Divine, "the chart topping R&B/Pop
teen sensation," which says:
Divine has just completed filming the video for their follow up single
"One More Try," a patented rendition of George Michael's soulful
classic which is, in its initial release at radio, already garnering
most added status at urban and crossover formats. The track will go
to Top 40 radio in March and the band is being presented to a US live
audience with a special guest spot on the upcoming N'Sync tour, which
commences on March 28, 1999.

Rumours of split with Kenny are 'not true'
I hate printing Members Online information on here but I think this is
important to say. Shirlie Kemp at AEGEAN, George's official fan club,
says that the rumors about George and Kenny splitting up are: "NOT
TRUE and quite upsetting really."

George Michael BIOrhythm
According to the Entertainment Wire:
BIOrhythm: George Michael
Premieres February 9th at 10:30pm (ET/PT)
For most of George Michael's life, the international pop star has struggled
to find his identity. With each step, he gets closer to self-acceptance,
but the road there has not been easy. BIOrhythm: George Michael will show
how he continually re-invented himself with each image he put out to the
public. Ironically, each new persona made him a bigger star, but more
and more miserable. It wasn't until recently, when George finally decided
to stop forcing himself to change, that he began giving the world a glimpse
of the man he truly is. Footage includes photos of George's first band
The Executive, George's and Andrew Ridgley's first public appearance,
the only known photograph of George with his lover, Anselmo, and rare
behind-the-scenes footage of George and Andrew as Wham! Music includes
"That's the Way (I like it)" by KC and the Sunshine Band, "Got
My Own Thing Now" by Squirrel Nut Zippers, "Chainsaw" by
Skinny Puppy, and "The Streets of New Delhi" By Tuatara.

George has a fat neck
I wish these journalists would come up with more interesting stories
than this one.
George was on the list of actors whom The New York Observer deemed as
having "fat necks."
"Euro Radio Faces George Michael Dilemma"
It's seems that those lucky enough to live in Europe will be getting
twice
as much George Michael on their radio stations. "As" --
the Stevie Wonder cover with Mary J. Blige -- is being released at the
same time as "Waltz Away Dreaming 99" -- the duet with Toby
Bourke, former AEGEAN artist. "Waltz Away Dreaming," a touching
ballad inspired in part by George's mum, Lesley, will be released by CNR
Music in Holland.
When AEGEAN Records close, the charming
Bourke received the master track and it has since been released to
CNR Music. According to the article, "CNR claim they thought the
Sony release would not happen until March."
As for AEGEAN Records closing, I don't have a clue what happened. The
George Michael fan club run through the AEGEAN website is still alive
and well according to the weekly Members Online newsletter.

a lot to me because so many people love it."

"Careless Whisper" tops 500 favorites
On January 1, 1998, YOGfriend Bev kindly informed us of the following:
What a way to start the New Year!! Every year, Capital
Radio in London runs a "Hall Of Fame Top 500", where listeners
are invited to vote for their favourite three songs of all time. Once
the votes have been counted, the Top 500 songs are played between Christmas
and the New Year, finishing with the No 1 just before 1 p.m. on New Years
Day. And guess which song was No 1 this year -- GEORGE MICHAEL'S "CARELESS
WHISPER"!! I confess that I haven't listened to the entire Top 500,
but I think that George had 12 songs featured this year. The Top 500 will
be printed in the Press here next week, so I can fill in all the stats
then.
People Weekly -- Special Double Issue
After a nice holiday with family, my parents and I were driving home
on New Year's day. After stopping at a gas station, my father tossed a
copy of the December 28, 1998 - January 4, 1999 issue of People to
me. I happened to open it to page 185 -- the page with an interesting
caricature of George coming out of the men's room with a paragraph entitled,
"Lock Him Up, He Did a No-No" in People's "It Happened
This Year" section. (Thanks, Dad!)
George is still number 1
On December 28, 1998, YOGfriend Bev told us that:
"Ladies & Gentlemen" is STILL the No1 album here! And it
gets better -- according to one of today's newspapers, the best-selling
album for 1998 here is The Corrs' "Talk On Corners", with Robbie
Williams' "Life Thru A Lens" at No2... and "Ladies &
Gentlemen" at No3!! I think that's a fantastic performance by an
album (and a double album at that) that was only released in the second
week of November. Congratulations George!
