British singer-songwriter George Michael, of Cypriot descent, talks to reporters at Athens International Airport yesterday. The 44-year-old pop singer, one of the world’s most successful male artists, is to perform at the Athens Olympic Stadium tonight.
Works at Local Galleries Tap Imagination:
The inaugural show of the Goss-Michael Foundation, formerly Goss Gallery, is fueled by bawdy sexuality. Kenny Goss and George Michael, proprietors of the nonprofit foundation, send a message of love, hedonism and plural proclivities.
Michael to be in Tate sketch Show:
Singer George Michael is to appear in this year's festive edition of Catherine Tate's BBC comedy programme.
"It is true. He has filmed scenes that will be shown in the Christmas special," said a spokesman.
"Elton and George Are the New Medicis: They Have Money, Influence and No Taste"
Between them they own art worth approximately £1bn. If an Emin or Hirst is not on public display, the chances are it's on the wall of the warehouse of one of the new British collectors whose fabulous wealth is funding a contemporary art boom in much the same way as the Medicis dominated 15th-century Florence or the Guggenheims 20th-century New York.
Now, like their predecessors, today's collectors are turning to philanthropy and opening free art galleries or loaning out work so their collections can be aired in public.
George Michael Fined for Concert Overrun:
George Michael was reportedly fined GBP130,000 after his opening concert at the new Wembley Stadium in London overran by 13 minutes.
A source says, "Wembley has strict rules that gigs must finish at an agreed time or face a GBP10,000 fine for each minute they continue. George slipped two extra songs into his set and racked up a huge bill. He was enjoying himself so much he didn't care."
Programming coup delivers further strength for Seven:
ELI STONE: Today the worst thing happened to mercenary attorney Eli Stone (Jonny Lee Miller). A case made him care. As if that's not enough, he's also hallucinating. Could it be that Eli's not cut out to be a cutthroat lawyer, but has a higher calling? Risking everything, he begins work in his law firm’s new pro bono department fighting for the little guy. As for those visions of George Michael singing to him, his doctor thinks it’s an aneurysm, like the one that tortured his father. But Eli sees a greater possibility, a destiny to become a spiritual prophet. From the producers of Brothers & Sisters comes this unique, character-driven drama that explores the different worlds of law and spirituality in a humorous way.
Star George Repays Faith of His Fans:
One of the world's biggest superstars last night confirmed he will be play Belfast for the first time next month. George Michael will finish his epic European tour with what is sure to be a sell-out concert in the Odyssey Arena. Tickets for the gig on Saturday August 4 go on sale at 9am next Tuesday.
Since leaving the band, Mutya Buena's career has exploded. George Michael called her during her Sugababes days, wanting her to record a duet. At the time she said the band weren't so keen on her stepping outside their ranks.
When she left, Michael called again. Their duet, This Is Not Real Love, was a British Top 20 hit last year and Buena got on stage to perform it with him during his European tour last year.
"That gave me a big kick," Buena says. "I was still trying to finish my album, then I get to go in the studio with him and go on stage with him and sing in front of 20,000 people when I hadn't been on stage for about two years. That was amazing.
"He made it so much easier for me. He boosted my confidence, made me feel like I could do it again. He's amazing, not just because he let me on one of his tracks. He's just a great artist. That's one of the highlights of my life, working with George Michael."

Art World Superstar Tests Sensational, Confessional and Cultural Boundaries in Dallas Show:
The enfant terrible of Britart, Tracey Emin, will be the focus of a sensational and intimately confessional show that also tests accepted cultural boundaries. "A Tribute to Tracy Emin" is the first show in Dallas from the Goss-Michael Collection, a US$200 million collection of art by young, emerging British artists that has been purchased by Kenny Goss and pop music star George Michael through their Goss-Michael Foundation.
Dallas' edgiest art lovers, Kenny Goss and pop star George Michael, have transformed the former Goss Gallery at Cedar Springs into the new Goss-Michael Foundation and Collection.
In London last week, Dallas art collectors Cindy and Howard Rachofsky got prime seating at the 44th birthday party for singer and sometime Dallasite George Michael.
Cindy found herself seated next to Crown Prince Pavlos, son of Greece's deposed King Constantine II. Also at the table was Pavlos' wife, American billion-heir Princess Marie-Chantal (nee Miller) and supermodel Elle Macpherson.
