If you read this site, you’re probably a dedicated George Michael fan who bought TwentyFive ages ago when it was released in the U.K. and practically everywhere … except the United States. Yes, we deprived U.S. fans finally will be able to buy TwentyFive in the U.S. on April 1. (Is that a joke?)
Here’s the description from the official site:
George’s European chart-topping retrospective, TwentyFive, is set for release in the United States on April 1st. This will be his first U.S. release since his 2004 studio album, Patience. TwentyFive, which includes his biggest smash hits, is the comprehensive George Michael collection, spanning his entire music career — from George’s early hits with Wham!, through his brilliant solo career that showcases his singing and songwriting genius. The album features six new songs, including a duet with Mary J. Blige, a duet with Paul McCartney, and a newly recorded single from his hit tv series, Eli Stone.

That isn’t a joke, because George knew the truth about his unpopularity problem in US. If GM had published it without a supporter like Oprah (Patience was #12 in the billboard album chart after the show), TwentyFive would have been a disapointment. So he needed a new supporter. He waited for ratings of Eli Stone and of course his comeback. Eli Stone has a rating about 7 million. So GM’s strategy is very reasonable 🙂
By the way, what are “the six new songs” for US fans? I am confused.
Heal The Pain
Understand
This is not Real Love
Easier Affair
and a new single for Eli Stone?
Thank you…
April 1st is April Fool’s Day in the U.S. so it’s just not the best date to release something.
I hope “Eli Stone” is giving some promotion to George Michael, but the ratings for “Eli Stone” have been low and I’ve read various articles about how it will most likely be canceled. Here’s hoping ABC promotes this upcoming episode with George Michael as himself as heavily as they did the first episode.
I’m not quite sure how there are six new songs for U.S. fans either! So far, I am only seeing a two-CD version of TwentyFive on Amazon so maybe the other songs are only on the three-CD version?
Hi Everyone! Apparently, the U.S. version will be two discs; (condensing the deluxe three disc set into the two). The sixth song is a cover titled “Feeling Good.”
Also, George is using the 25 cd as a promo for his U.S. tour; both the two and triple discs have been in the stores since Christmas, 2006; but labled as “imports.” Now, the cd will be formally introduced.
Lastly, he’s supposed to be announcing his tour within the month. Contracts are locked and sealed with a 23-28 date lineup….
All of my best for a wonderful summer in America, we sure could use it!!! Love to George and Kenny.
Melanie, you are right about Eli Stone. But We can simply say that GM in action in US although the ratings are getting worse. ABC had two weeks prime time lead with LOST and Eli Stone. Then, it was second position more than a month. So ABC and Berlanti supported GM very well. I think George reached his goal about publicity. Unfortunately Faith era never come again 😥 ,we all know this…
Sorry for my bad english.
Take care.
I guess I’m just sad about the ratings. I really had high hopes for the show (and for the impact it could have on George Michael in the U.S.) It’s been very difficult to be a fan in the U.S because we get everything a year later than everyone or not at all.
Melanie and YogTube~First, Happy Easter. I agree we won’t be seeing the Faith era again, but after the difficulties he sustained here in the U.S., I really believe he’ll do just fine. He has a real strong hard-core fan base; and he’s attracting new ones everyday. In my local paper two weeks ago, (I’m from the Cleveland area), There are so many people setting their DVR players and Tivo that do not count in the initial ratings (Nielsen); however, they did do an account with all the other shows using the DVR and Tivo users, and Eli was at #7 on the chart! I was surprised about that. I didn’t even think about that before. Apparently then, there are more people watching Eli than we thought….Good News?
Keep sending George positive energy! 🙂
By the way…Anyone close to Cleveland?
