New Yours Only George Design

Those of you who are regulars around here know that I had to quickly redesign the Yours Only George web site. As a result, there are still some issues that I have not fixed. There are minor, known issues in the old news section (News Flash). If you have any problems or notice any issues with the redesigned site, please post them here so that I can fix them.

New Television Program Seeks George Michael Memorabilia

A new television program is looking for George Michael memorabilia:

Calling all George Michael fans! What can you bring to the dealing room?

TV Production Company Fever Media are seeking George Michael fans to sell their valuables to our team of Dealers in a brand new TV format for Discovery International.

Some of the biggest players in the worlds of antiques, collectables and pawnbroking will be spending their own cash on ANYTHING of value. They’ve got thousands to spend and they want to spend BIG.

In this brand new international TV format, members of the public will try and sell their valuables to our panel of high-flying international dealers for big money. One by one our sellers will enter the dealers’ space and try to get the best deal for their prized possession. Whether it’s a diamond ring, an antique vase, or a DeLorean car, nothing is too big or too small.

Fever Media are after any George Michael memorabilia or fascinating items that members of the public think our Dealers may be interested in buying, or any family heirlooms that you think may be worth something. Have you got George Michael handwritten lyrics? Do you own his stage worn outfit? If so we want to know.

Filming is taking place in October but Fever are looking to speak to people now!

If you want to start a bidding war between the Dealers and make a tidy profit, don’t hesitate to get in touch! CALL 020 7428 5756 or email dealers@fevermedia.co.uk for further details!

Possible Web Site Problems

I just learned that my web host is discontinuing FrontPage extensions in mid-September, and most of this site, excluding the news blog, was developed in FrontPage.  Without FrontPage extensions, the site loses the header, menu, footer, and probably the fonts and background. I had plans to redesign the site, but I’m not sure I can completely redesign the site by September.

When the web host shuts off the FrontPage extension, I will upload everything I have completed at that point.  Although I had hoped to clean up all the old code when I redesigned the site, I don’t think that will be possible with such a short deadline.  The site will be functional but may not be completely redesigned until next year.

George Michael May Cancel Appearance for Black Ball London

George Michael told his Twitter followers that he may not appear at the Black Ball London.  He said:

On the weekend, got some kind of infection in my lower jaw and the left side of my face now resembles a hairy football … I look like Marlon Brando ( I wish….) in the Godfather if they forgot to stuff the right cheek! … Anyway the point is I dont know if it will clear up in time for Wednesdays Black Ball Charity event with Alicia Keys … Which would be terrible, I don’t want to let down the charity, which is excellent, and I would  love to sing with Alicia, shes wonderful….

Wham Rap! Release Key Event in History of Pop Music

The Guardian lists the release of Wham Rap! as number 28 in its series of the 50 key events in the history of pop music:

Teenager George Michael was inspired by Britain’s early 80s recession to write a song about the upside of being on the dole. Contending that unemployment provided free time to immerse oneself in London’s booming club culture, Wham Rap! was rather subversive. It was also one of the first British pop singles to avail itself of the still new hip-hop style, and if Michael’s rhyming skills were the essence of Englishness, they seemed cool at the time.

Yours Only George Celebrates Its 14th Year Today

When you start a fan site, I don’t think you look beyond the excitement of starting it.  To be running this site 14 years is amazing (no pun intended) to me.

I have to admit that I’m a little concerned about the viability of Yours Only George in the new George-Michael-on-Twitter era. These days all you have to do is follow George Michael on Twitter, and you get the news.  You don’t really need a site like Yours Only George any more.  It seems like everything in my world has changed so much in the last few years, and I guess this is just another change.

Don’t get me wrong, George Michael on Twitter is the absolute best thing that has ever happened to the George Michael community.  I love it, and if there had been such a thing as Twitter 14 years ago and George had been on it, I don’t think this site would have ever been developed. It was always my hope that this site filled in some of the gaps of the official site.

So, I’m still here, at least until I’m no longer needed.  THANK YOU to everyone who has supported this site through the years. Also, thank you to everyone who has stuck by the site in the last few years, even though I haven’t been able to update it as much I’d like to. I appreciate everyone, even though I often don’t have time to write back or tweet.  I’m here because you still want me to be here.

Thank you as always to Shannon who started it all … and to George for making the music we happily listened to since 1984.

George Michael Symphonica: The Orchestral Tour!

From the official site:

Symphonica will see George Michael hit over 15 countries across Europe from August through December 2011. Some of the amazing venues already lined up include the O2 Arena in Berlin, Piazza Santa Croce in Florence, Palau San Jordi in Barcelona, London’s legendary Royal Albert Hall, and many, many more! He will perform not only a carefully chosen selection of his songs, spanning all his remarkable, near 30-year career, but he will cover some of his favourite songs from other artists. The music will be re-worked and re-arranged for the orchestra which will accompany George at each location. This new classical setting will give each song added layers and new nuances. It’s unmistakeably George Michael, but not as we’ve ever known him.

Tour dates are here: http://www.georgemichael.com/tour/
