Losing Faith

I’m guessing that all you George Michael fans are going to want to comment on “Losing faith in Seattle,” which says:

I’ll be honest, George. I like a lot of your music. I liked it in the ’80s, and I like the way it reminds me of my college years now. But this gimmick you have of covering up your weakened voice by pointing the mike at us to sing whenever you come to a high note is getting really, really annoying. I didn’t pay for these tickets and drive downtown to hear myself sing. And if you could hear my voice, you would be in agreement with me. Or maybe not. Because it seems like with every passing year, fans are expected to carry more of the burden. Whether it’s singing your chorus or paying for the arenas so the owners can boost their profits, we’re constantly expected to do more and more. And frankly, I’m getting pretty tired of it.

Two Remixes

Nathan Jay is a house music composer/remixer from England, and he’s just finished two new tracks, each based around samples of George’s vocals.

Driftin’ on by” is a deep house track based around samples of “Feeling Good.”

Did I Dream?” is a deep house track based around samples of “Song to the Siren” – for the first four minutes.  After that it goes rave-mental according to Jay and the video almost makes it look like George is raving like a mad man with the crowd.

Great Review from San Diego Concert

When a non-fan likes the concert, you know it had to be good:

It’s infectious, you know. My husband and I went along to this show because a friend called last-minute with free tickets. We sat in the nosebleeds (literally, five rows from the top) and proceeded to poke fun at everything before the lights went down. But a couple of songs in, I was ready to dance like it was 1989 again, because here I must admit, I was at the Faith tour, screaming alongside thousands of rabid teenage girls. This couldn’t possibly measure up, right?

So wrong. Throngs of other moms, dads, gay guys, straight guys, girls-night-out groups and other types danced from the moment the first note sounded ’til the lights came up, about two and a half hours later. As I might have said when I was 14: OMG, that was awesome.

The Final Two

George Michael has announced two major concerts in London to mark the end of his 25 Live Tour, labelling the dates at Earl’s Court in August “The Final Two.”  You may remember that the final concert for Wham! in 1986 was called “The Final.”

It is a nod to his sell-out Wembley Stadium show, The Final, with Andrew Ridgeley in 1986 – when he brought the curtain down on Wham!

Wham! Movie?

Wham!’s former manager Simon Napier-Bell is in talks with movie producers about bringing their story to the big screen but thinks that George Michael will put a stop to it.

“There are several people sniffing round about a Wham! film but I’m not sure any of them will come off because they all require Wham! music in them and George controls that,” said Napier-Bell.

Simon Napier-Bell, the manager of Wham! in the mid 1980s who masterminded the historic Wham! trip to China, went on to direct “George Michael: Portrait of an Artist” (Amazon Ad) in 2023. The documentary includes interviews with Stevie Wonder, Sanandra Maitreya, Stephen Fry, Kenny Goss, Chris Cameron, Rufus Wainwright, Piers Morgan, and Jo Whiley.

Yours Only George Web Site Celebrates Its 11th Birthday

On June 1, 2008, Yours Only George celebrated its 11th birthday. It’s a bittersweet celebration for me as it occurs just at the time George Michael is starting his first tour in the U.S. for 17 years and I’m not going to see him.  It’s the end of a dream for me as I now know I’ll never see him perform live again and I’ll never have the chance to meet him.  It’s a dream I’ve had for 23 years … since 1985. Of all the goals and dreams I’ve ever had, I suppose this was the most illogical and unachievable one on the list.  But it still saddens me that it’s over.

I’d like to thank all of the regulars who keep visiting day after day. I know I haven’t been very good about keeping up with the site lately in terms of news, links, and mail, and I do apologize.

I also have to thank Shannon, who was the driving force of Yours Only George, dating back to the 80s. Without her, I don’t know what I’d do.

And of course, I would like to thank George Michael.  George, your music in the last few months has kept me sane through a difficult time.  Thank you for not forgetting your U.S. fans.
