George and Whitney
YOGfriend Bev tells us about an article from the UK magazine
"heat":
GEORGE TEAMS UP WITH WHITNEY
Michael Jackson's loss is George Michael's gain
George Michael and Whitney Houston are to duet on a song rejected by Michael
Jackson. The song, If I Told You That, was originally earmarked by Jacko's
producer Rodney Jerkins for Jackson to record with Houston on his next
album. Jerkins told heat, "We couldn't make that happen. And the
next person in line was George Michael."
The pair are to record the song in LA next month. Michael
has recorded a number of duets throughout his career, most recently with
Mary J Blige on As. He's also recorded with Elton John and Aretha Franklin.

Bearded Drinkers Lose Out
My Love, here's a good reason to keep those whiskers trimmed!
When you're out drinking your ale, you're losing a great deal of the beer
in your beard! The BBC
reports that "with a goatee like pop singer George Michael (you)
are £9 out of pocket."

Top Tens
YOGfriend Bev writes in to say:
Did anyone else watch "Top Tens" on UK Channel
4 on Saturday evening? This music show, which chooses Top Tens in various
genres each week, featured "boy bands". Coming in at Number
3 was - Wham! The programme showed some great old footage, and had some
recent comments from Shirlie and Pepsi, although sadly neither George
nor Andrew were interviewed. A great piece of pop nostalgia! :o)

George on 1515
YOGfriend Dave says that George was mentioned on this week's
edition of MTV 1515. It airs again Sunday night at 7:30 P.M. EST and Monday
morning at 7:00 A.M. EST.
They mentioned him during the report about Santana's song "Smooth"...
it was at the beginning of the show.
Will & Grace & George?
YOGfriend Pat says that the producers of the show "Will
& Grace" are looking for a British actor to play Will's lover.
As Pat says, "I know George's job isn't acting, but am I the only
person who thinks it could be a big plus to raising awareness of him in
the States. I'm sure he'd be excellent, people would probably see him
in a different light, and it would show his versatility." You can
send an e-mail to willandgrace@nbc.com.
Conan O'Brien
YOGfriend Pat also tells us that George's lawsuit was mentioned
on a recent Conan O'Brien program. "George Michael was so happy about
it he asked the judge for a 10-minute recess."

Buffy and George
Sarah Michelle Gellar, star of Buffy The Vampire Slayer,
has an interesting aside in next week's TVGUIDE:
"Did you know we shot my Maybelline commercial at the
park in Beverly Hills with the George Michael bathroom? Here's a picture
of me taken by the famed photographer Herb Ritts [who directed the commercial]
in the very stall George was arrested in."

Court Case Thrown Out
YOGfriend Bev writes: I've just heard (15 February) on the
1 p.m. news on Capital Radio, that Marcello Rodriguez's case against George
has been thrown out of court! I don't know any details, but this is definitely
a victory for common-sense.

Latin Promo
Ivan tells us that EMI Latin America is promoting "Miss
Sarajevo." The edited track is only 3.57 minutes. It is included
on a CD that has songs by the Backstreet Boys ("Show Me the Meaning
of Being Lonely"), Britney Spears ("From the Bottom of My Broken
Heart"), and the Pet Shop Boys ("You Only Tell Me You Love Me
When You're Drunk").
George Wins
YOGfriend Pat says there is a very long revue in the Sunday
News divided between George's Songs From the Last Century and
Joni Mitchell's Both Sided Now. I'm not going to copy the whole
thing here. Suffice it to say George wins.
Two paragraph's worth are:
"The crystalline quality in his singing matches the harps heavenly
sound. He's even better on Ewan MacColl's classic 'The First Time Ever
I Saw Your Face,' where he holds the notes with enough care and beauty
to make Roverta Flack's version seem downright homely.
Michael assumed a broad definition of standards for this
project, expanding well beyond the '30's and '40's. In between songs like
1932's 'Brother Can You Spare A Dine' and '37's 'Where Or When,' Michael
folds in 'Rozanne,' The Police's 1979 ode to a prostitute, and U2's 1995
piece 'Miss Sarajevo.' Countering Sting's reggae-pop arrangement, Michael
turns 'Rozanne' into a swinging lounge ballad, while he finds more melody
in the U2 tune than Bono had managed.'"

Q
YOGfriend Bev sends us the following:
There are a couple of George-tastic items in the new (March)
issue of "Q" magazine. Here they are, for your reading pleasure...
Top 40 Albums
At No 14 is "Songs From The Last Century" (double platinum)
"George Michael's record label deny tabloid reports that they spent
£4 million promoting this album, which has already sold 600,000 copies.
According to Michael's spokesperson at Virgin Records, the company 'spent
nowhere near that amount'. However he confirms that Virgin concentrated
on TV advertising, 'because George Michael wasn't available for radio,
press and didn't have any live concerts planned'. He also claims, 'TV
advertising rates are actually lower in December, because most peole start
their campaigns earlier than that. We only found out at the last minute
that an album was going to happen, so all our promotion was booked late'.
Michael is currently working on an album of original material which is
allegedly 'lighter in tone'."
And: "Older" features as one of "The Best Relationship
Albums Of All Time". Here is what the compiler has to say...
"George Michael
Older
Virgin 1996
It was the Sony court case that kept Michael off the release schedules
for six years, but during that time he also lost his partner, Brazillian
designer Anselmo Feleppa (he died of an AIDS-related brain haemorrhage
in 1993). Co-dedicated to Feleppa ('who changed the way I look at my life'),
Older is both requiem and testimonial, touching rather than gloomy (Jesus
To A Child's 'Heaven sent and heaven stole' line, and the life-goes-on
title track). Pity he felt the need to have a pop at the record biz (Star
People) in the middle of all this important stuff. Best Tracks. Spinning
The Wheel, The Strangest Thing, Jesus To A Child. Most Personal Moment.
Older: 'Well you're out of time/ I'm letting go/You'll be fine/ Well that
much I know'."

New (Old) Book
YOGfriend Bev tells us that there's a new edition of the
book George Michael In His Own Words. It's complied by Nigel
Goodall, and is published by Omnibus Press at 7.99 sterling (ISBN 0711978913).
It is somewhat different from the original edition: it has
a different pic of George on the cover, and some new chapters added to
the text. The new subjects on which George is quoted are: "Indiscretion",
"Coming Out", "More Music" and "Addictions".

George Comparisons
A few weeks ago, I read a review in Billboard magazine referring
to singer-songwriter Glenn Medeiros
as a "young George Michael." Now, Latin singing sensation Chayanne
is being referred to as the "new George Michael." It's funny
because all three are my favorite singers.
January 8, 2000
In The Stars
YOGfriend Bev says:
Tonight's (7 January) ES magazine, accompanying the London
Evening Standard, gives horoscopes for the year 2000, and singles out
certain people in the public eye for "in depth" predictions.
Guess which famous Cancerian gets the special treatment?
"George Michael.
Even greater recognition is on the cards as his work takes him in one
direction and then another. The only setbacks revolve around one or two
altercations where George shows once again that he's not someone to be
pushed around. But he'll happily share the credit with someone who has
advised him well."
No Howard Stern
AEGEAN reports that George will not be doing the Howard
Stern show.

Songs From The Last Century... a flop???
YOGfriend Bev tells us:
This is from "UK Confidential" in The Sun (6 Jan);
I have no way of knowing if the figures quoted are correct, and I am not
responsible for the tone of the article. I am assuming it refers to the
UK only. Read Without Prejudice and please don't shoot the Messenger.
Any complaints to: alistair.ross@the-sun.co.uk.
"Much head scratching at Virgin Records where George Michael's latest
album has stiffed like something he'd come across in an LA public toilet.
Weeks after release, Songs From The Last Century has sold fewer than 600,000
copies. Sounds reasonable, but Virgin spent £4million promoting the damn
thing and it has done next to nothing in the charts. Which leaves me to
conclude George's career could bottom out and go down the pan if someone
doesn't give him and urgent hand, etc. But never mind, he's always got
Kenny Goss and close friend Geri Halliwell to comfort him."
London Loves?
YOGfriend Angelo tells us to look at Dotmusic's
article on "Careless Whisper" as favorite song of the millenium.
George More Popular Than Elvis?
In a recent Rock
Circus poll, George was more popular than Elvis!
A Year Out Of Tune
A BBC article, "A
Year Out Of Tune," refers to Songs From the Last Century
as "awful."
Yours Only George Note
A note to webmasters:
The title of this site is Yours Only George -- not YOGworld.
The YOG in YOGworld refers to the title Yours Only George. The title of
this site is a play on words because George's nickname is Yog.
January 5, 2000
Capital Radio Millennium Hall Of Fame!
YOGfriend Bev starts out the year right with this news:
I'm delighted to announce that CARELESS WHISPER is NUMBER
1 on Capital Radio's Millennium Hall Of Fame Top 1000! "Imagine"
by John Lennon was number 3, "Angels" by Robbie Williams was
number 2, and George held on to London's affections yet again! :o)
It might also interest you to know that George had the third
highest number of songs (16) in the Top 1000; Madonna was second, with
18 songs featured, but the Beatles had the most songs (21).
The full list of 1000 songs will apparently be on the Capital
FM website
(www.capitalfm.com).
CONGRATULATIONS GEORGE: what a way to start 2000!
George Partied Like It Was 1999
YOGfriend Bev says The Sun reports that "Geri Halliwell
and George Michael dirty danced into the early hours at her New Year's
Eve bash in Berkshire."
