Pavarotti & Friends 2000 on CD

YOGfriend Bev once again comes through for us:

From the Decca Classics website: the Pavarotti & Friends 2000 album will be released in September. Here's what they have to say -- "Pavarotti & Friends for Cambodia & Tibet is the seventh album in this enormously successful series. Luciano Pavarotti's now internationally famous charity concert in Modena once again delivered what long-time fans and newcomers were looking for - the biggest names in music, in beautiful Italian surroundings, raising significant funds for children's charities.

For Modena 2000, Pavarotti chose to donate proceeds to the international Italian-based charity, Music for Peace, to help needy children from Cambodia and Tibet. The Dalai Lama attended the concert and delivered a millennial message of peace.

This year's guest artists, as ever, "rose to the occasion". When Skunk Anansie and Pavarotti jointly decided to sing the Skunk Anansie song You'll follow me down, the band's vocalist Skin sang in Italian - which may surprise anyone who associates Skunk Anansie with raging guitars and strident left-wing lyrics. Other artists included George Michael, TracyChapman, Aqua, Eurythmics, Enrique Iglesias and many others."

The tracklisting is:

  • Pavarotti & Enrique Iglesias - Cielito lindo

  • Aqua - Around the world

  • Pavarotti & Eurythmics - There must be an angel

  • Savage Garden - I knew I loved you

  • Pavarotti & Irene Grandi - Guarda che luna

  • George Michael - Brother, can you spare a dime

  • Skunk Anansie - Tracy's flaw

  • Pavarotti & Tracy Chapman - Baby, can I hold you tonight

  • Pavarotti & Savage Garden - 'O sole mio

  • Pavarotti & Skunk Anansie - You'll follow me down

  • Zucchero - A wonderful world

  • Pavarotti & Monica Naranjo - Agnus Dei

  • Caetano Veloso - Desde que o samba é samba

  • Pavarotti & Aqua - Funiculì, funicula

  • Tracy Chapman - Telling stories

  • Pavarotti & Biagio Antonacci - Se e'vero che ci sei

  • Eurythmics - I saved the world today

  • Pavarotti & Caetano Veloso - Manha de Carnaval

  • Enrique Iglesias - Be with you

  • All (Beatles Finale) - All you need is love

Whitney - The Greatest Hits

According to Arista Records:

The success of WHITNEY -- THE GREATEST HITS is linked to the three newly-recorded duet singles issued simultaneously in advance of the double-album's release: "Could I Have This Kiss Forever" with Enrique Iglesias; "Same Script, Different Cast" with fellow Arista artist Deborah Cox; and (in Europe) "If I Told You That" with George Michael.

soulDecision

According to PR Newswire:

Just how did chart-topping soulDecision get together? As the story goes, Trevor Guthrie, forever a lovestruck romantic, was dating a young girl during his days at Vancouver's Capilano Music College. Trevor was being a devoted boyfriend when David Bowman, a fellow classmate and as they say quite a ladies man, swooped in and "stole" the girl away from Trevor. All was forgiven when each discovered in the other a kindred musical spirit. From there, David and Trevor teamed up with longtime friend Ken Lewko, creating a sound that is a hybrid of the members' influences -- Duran Duran, Earth Wind & Fire and George Michael.

Shirlie in Night & Day

YOGfriend Bev writes:

Did anyone spot the interview with Shirlie Kemp in the Mail On Sunday's "Night & Day" magazine (27 Aug)? She talked mainly about Martin's brain tumours, and of course also discussed her time with Wham!, and about George approaching her to "organise his busy website".

"Since the first Pavarotti & Friends event in 1992, Pavarotti's star-studded extravaganza in Modena has become a major annual fixture, attracting some of the biggest names in the international music industry while also growing into a significant fund-raising vehicle for various children's charities.

For Modena 2000, proceeds are going to the international Italian-based charity, Music for Peace, to help needy children from Cambodia and Tibet. This year's roster features the talents of Aqua, Biagio Antonacci, Tracey Chapman, Eurythmics, Enrique Iglesias, George Michael, Monica Naranjo, Savage Garden, Skunk Anansie, Caetano Veloso and Zucchero."

George Label-hopping Again?

YOGfriend Pat tells us about an article in the Rush & Molloy column in the NY Daily News (July 4th, 2000). It reads "George Michael could be label-hopping again. Dethroned Arista ruler Clive Davis is wooing the singer to his new Davis Entertainment label, we hear. Michael jumped to DreamWorks in '95 after a long contract fight with Sony Music. But in November, after giving DreamWorks his "Older" LP, he signed with the North American arm of Virgin, which already distributed him worldwide.

"Michael may be the marquee name Davis needs. Carlos Santana and Whitney Houston both sang Davis' praises when his bosses recommended he retire. But Santana announced last week that he was sticking with Arista, and word is company head Antonio (L.A.) Reid is making Houston a money offer she's not likely to turn down.

"Reps for Michael, Davis and Virgin had no comment."

Toby Bourke's "House Of Love"

YOGfriend Bev writes to tell us:

Toby Bourke's new single "House Of Love" is released on Monday 10th July in the UK. It's on the Recognition/Universal label, and there are TWO CDs!

There is special interest in this single for George Michael fans. CD1 contains "House Of Love", a brand new remix of "Waltz Away Dreaming" and a CD-ROM of the "Waltz Away Dreaming" video! CD2 contains "House Of Love", "Love Is Not Faith (Live)" and "River Run Deep (Live)". Toby was, of course, originally signed to AEgean Records, and we should all rush to our local HMV or Virgin and buy this single! :o)
